Pro Golf Viewership Declines

Less people watched professional golf in 2024, according to Sports Business Journal. Viewership for PGA TOUR events on Saturday and Sundays this year was down 17 and 19% respectively. With several big names jumping ship for LIV Golf and ongoing negotiations that feel never ending, there is a subset of golf fans who have become fatigued and begun to tune out. While these fans may still check in, they are not consuming the game in the same ways that they once did. YouTube has never been more prevalent than it is now, with content creators like Bryson DeChambeau, Grant Horvat and Good Good releasing long form video content that could be taking some attention away from watching actual live golf.

Saw an interesting response on X this week from Kent Osborne that came in response to a post by Brandel Chamblee. Have a look and let us know your thoughts.

Are you watching less - why or why not?

Trailer for Happy Gilmore 2

The official trailer for the upcoming Happy Gilmore 2 movie on Netflix has arrived with the long awaited sequel expected to drop sometime in mid 2025. A long list of pros are rumored to be making appearances in the film from Jack Nicklaus to Rickie Fowler. Check out the full list of rumored golf stars involved.

Scheffler & Hovland Sustain Injuries

A Christmas Day accident at the Scheffler household means that Scottie has been forced to withdraw from the Tour’s Season Opener in Hawaii. While preparing Christmas dinner, Scottie had an accident that caused shards of glass to get stuck in the palm of his hand - and surgery was required to remove it. Scheffler is expected to make a full recovery and return at the AMEX Championship in a few weeks time.

Unfortunately, the injuries, didn’t stop there. Viktor Hovland also broke his toe after stubbing it on his bed frame. His official status for The Sentry is unknown but in an update over the weekend, he is reportedly hoping to be able to play with it taped up, as well as taking painkillers but we will see.
